Keldon Johnson: Shot Form Assessment

Johnson has some mechanical issues, but overall his shooting form is quick, compact and smooth. He does a good job aligning himself with the basket and has a balanced takeoff, resulting in some of the best side-to-side accuracy in the class. He does have an acute elbow angle, and often a flexed wrist, which contribute to a flatter arc and a tendency to draw back iron. He also has some issues with elbow flare, but at least presently it doesn’t appear to impact his results. One observation that does not show up in our tracking is that his knees tend to move inward when his foot spacing is at least shoulder width, diminishing the power generated by his legs. Despite having a few mechanical issues, he seems to have good natural touch and manages to hit center distance more often than expected considering his form.
